Salma Hayek's major Hollywood breakthrough came from Robert Rodriguez's Desperado. She rose to prominence with Frida, a film nominated for an Academy Award. Hayek was also involved in television as producer of executive productions for Ugly Betty and other hit shows. Salma Hayek Jimenez is the daughter of Spanish parents as well as an Lebanese dad. She was born September 2, 1966, in Coatzacoalcos Veracruz Mexico. Hayek was raised by a wealthy Catholic family.
